Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS)

Companies across all industries are becoming increasingly aware of the need to reduce their carbon footprint and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG). Subsurface geologic CO2 sequestration provides a means to safely store captured CO2 in depleted oil fields or subsurface environments that are identified as suitable storage facilities.

Our geoscience and engineering experts can address all technical aspects of the CCUS project workflow including:

  • Identify and high grade potential CO2 storage sites within existing acreage and exploratory areas.
  • Petrophysical evaluation to determine porosity and permeability in potential target storage intervals for carbon sequestration.
  • Build geomodels to aid in developing subsurface storage facilities.
  • Review and condition existing Class VI well design and associated wellbore schematics to reflect local conditions.
  • Detailed quality assurance of well log analysis, subsurface mapping techniques, and geologic model building workflows.
  • Final certification and sign off that the work was sufficient to meet and/or exceed the Monitoring, Reporting and Verification Plan (MRV Plan) regulatory requirements.

Geothermal Energy

As oil and gas companies continue to diversify their strategies to accommodate the low-carbon transition, geothermal energy offers a path into the generation of renewable power. Use of hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling is helping to unlock the potential of geothermal energy, which is defined as heat energy extracted from the earth’s subsurface. This energy is then converted into clean, reliable power.

We can provide geoscience and petroleum engineering consultants to handle the various aspects of geothermal projects, from single dwelling to power plant feasibility.

  • Carry out technical assessment and QAQC of applications for government funded geothermal grant programs.
  • Identify and examine the topography and geologic makeup of a geothermal site.
  • Ensure that a site will be able to supply adequate geothermal energy.
  • Recommend the most cost-effective areas to drill.

Additionally, we offer the following training course with emphasis on geothermal: Geothermal Energy
