Course Description
One of the most powerful techniques available to validate seismic and well log correlations, analyze growth, distinguish faults from unconformities or to locate sequence boundaries - MBPA - Learn the "Power of the PLOT". Multiple Bischke Plot Analysis is a graphical method for comparing log correlations of multiple wells for differences in growth rate and missing sections. The plot is a X-Y scatter plot of the depth of correlation points in a reference well versus the difference in depth of the same correlation points in comparison wells.
In this course you will learn how to use the Logbust computer program to rapidly process the Multiple Bischke Plot Analysis (MBPA) growth techniques. MBPA categorizes the tectonostratigraphic or growth history in order to gain significant insights into the stratigraphic and structural knowledge of an area and to solve seismic or well log correlation problems. The course also uses and newly released growth techniques involving Stacked and Structural Relief Plots. Prior to generating prospects or completing regional or field-wide interpretation, you can use LogbustTM to identify and resolve correlation problems, locate sequence boundaries, identify subtle stratigraphic traps, distinguish faults from unconformities (in well logs), determine the timing of faults or structural growth and more.
With little additional work, the computer program and MBPA ensure that an interpretation is consistent with the correlations. LogbustTM has been shown to reduce project cycle time with increased interpretation accuracy. Learn the "Power of the Plot" - The LogbustTM program and course incorporates Multiple Bischke Plot Analysis and other applicable growth techniques. This course can be offered as a 2 or 3 day workshop using client data to analyze specific fields or areas of study.
Learning Outcomes:
- Capability of graphing Δd/d x-y scatter plots of log correlations
- Ability to identify faults, unconformities and correlation errors on Δd/d and MBPA graphs
- Capability of building log correlation database in Excel for MBPA graphing in LogBust
- Ability to use LogBust software for MBPA graphing of individual Δd/d plots, stacked MBPA plots and structural relief/missing section plots for unconformities
- Knowledge of application of MBPA or Δd/d plots in extensional, mobile salt, compressional and strike-slip tectonic settings
Who should attend
Geologists, geophysicists, engineers, and technologists involved in seismic or well log correlation, interpretation, prospect generation or evaluation.
