Intraslope Basin Turbidites Field Course (France)

Instructors: Steve Cossey, Ph.D.
Course Length: 5 DAYS
Course CEUs: 4.0

Course Description
This field course is designed for turbidite workers as an introduction to the variability of architectural elements at both the bed- and seismic-scale in a classic area of turbidite sediments in Southeast France. This area probably contains the best-exposed analogues to the Gulf of Mexico intraslope basins, Paleogene of the Northern and Central North Sea, West Africa and other continental margins where interconnected slope basins are important for sand accumulation.

Who should attend
Geologists, geophysicists, geotechnologists, managers and engineers involved with the exploration and development of hydrocarbon reserves.

Course Content

  • Seismic scale onlaps
  • Relationship between tectonics and sedimentation
  • Seismic-scale and bed-scale architectural elements in a mini-basin
  • Quantification of the geometrical aspects of deepwater reservoirs
  • Analogues to the Gulf of Mexico basins and West Africa margin
